Cayman Airways Description
The airline was established and started operations in July 1968. It was formed to replace Cayman Brac Airways and became wholly government owned in December 1977. The airline operated regional services from Owen Roberts International Airport in George Town, Grand Cayman to Gerrard Smith International Airport on Cayman Brac. Early on, the aircraft operated were DC-3s. The airline began international services in the early 70s with a service to Miami using a single leased Douglas DC-6. The airline acquired its first jet aircraft, the BAC 1-11 in 1976, and began services to other parts of the USA. The airline upgraded to Boeing 727 aircraft in 1982, strengthining the airline's regional and international capability. These jets were eventually replaced with Boeing 737-200's. The airline struggled throughout the early 1990s, however financial assistance from the government, financial re-structuring a new fleet and new destinations such as Chicago, Boston, Fort Lauderdale and notably Havana (in 2003) have helped the airline. These days they operate a DHL 727 for their cargo routes, a B732, a couple of B733's and 2 twin otters.
Cayman Airways Virtual Description
[A message from the CEO]
Cayman Airways Virtual, also known as FlyCay Virtual was founded by Jonathan Schutte in July 2007. The airline steadily grew and as it grew new routes and aircraft were added to accommodate the rapid increase in pilots. We are based on the real world airline, however, we have expanded on the existing fleet and the real world routes to make the airline more exciting and attractive to a wider variety of people. The virtual airline operates the real world fleet, as well as a few extra aircraft to make flying with us more exciting and less limiting. With a dedicated staff behind all of our operations with both virtual and real world knowledge I believe that we are more than capable of running a smooth operation. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have regarding our operations at contact@flycay.com
