According to news, Tropical Storm Ida with the wind speed of 74 mph is going to hit Grand Cayman in 24 hours or so.

Are there any plans to evacuate all planes from MWCR and MWCB or are the planes staying there??

If they are planning to evacuate all planes, how come Cayman Airways virtual is not doing the same thing?

It's already past us, had very little impact here, only some wind and rain this morning. :)

I was flying form KIAD TO MMUN on vatsim and the controllers told me to watch out Tropical Storm IDA.

Well it is now 'Hurricane' Ida and is heading up through the Yucatan. It was only a TS when is passed over Cayman so apparently it just dupmed a whole load of much needed rain! Isn't it very late in the season for storms? hmmm

Winds at MWCR seem to be around 10 gusting to 26 at this time. Makes for some neat flying! .plane

Edit: Aharon, I thought you flew from KIAH?

You are correct. My apologies for typo. You are correct that I flew from KIAH to MMUN on Vatsim and the funny thing is that I never knew about Tropical Storm Ira while FLYING STRAIGHT into FACE of the tropical storm.

I saw the news about IRA storm on tv long before the flight but I thought it was heading to FLA, not over MWCR and toward between FLA and Mexico over Gulf of Mexico. I guess the storm changed the path.

Must be heck of fun for me:):)
