Whenever I open it, it gets stuck on "checking data for updates"...

Check your firewall isn't blocking VAFS from accessing the update server. Either make an exception for it or turn it off.

I've never used firewall...

Open up your Control Panel and click Security Center. See if Windows Firewall is enabled.

oh..ya, and if you are running vista it might help for the first run of VAFS to right click and click "Run as administrator". If you are using XP im not sure but it would help you have administrator privileges.. i think :D

yes, it needs to be running, you need to be at the correct gate, parking brake set.
